Summary

The Store Waste dashboard helps you identify stores with high waste levels, understand the underlying causes of waste, and implement effective interventions to reduce waste and improve profitability.

  • Compare waste levels between stores to identify stores with unusually high levels of waste that may require further investigation or intervention.
  • Highlight opportunities for waste reduction and cost savings, by optimising stock and improving pack sizes.
  • Understand waste patterns over time and track the effectiveness of interventions.

Setting up the dashboard

This screen is designed to work with one SKU only. The screen will initially load blank so a SKU must be selected. Using the first dashboard setting SKU & Description, select one SKU. 

The dashboard gives you a number of configuration options in the top bar, from left to right:

  • SKU and Description: This screen is designed to work with one SKU only. The screen will initially load blank so a SKU must be selected.
  • Start Date: Set the start date to see waste data for.
  • End Date: Set the end date to see waste data up to.
  • Value or Volume: Choose whether to view waste value or volume. 
  • Waste % Target: Set your waste target to highlight stores above target. 
  • Pack Size: Set your pack size to calculate pack turn in life. 
  • Minimum Shelf Life: Set your minimum shelf life to highlight stores unable to turn a pack in shelf life. 

💡 For retailers that only have Waste Value, The Value or Volume option will be unavailable. 

 

What's on screen

There are three components on-screen, from top left to bottom right:

  1. KPI tiles: at the top of the page show your headline figures for the selected date range. 
  2. Store breakdown: on the left of the page, there are three bars representing the following metrics, for the selected date range; Waste % in proportion to Sales, Pack Turn in Life, the store's ability to sell the pack within the shelf life, and Availability %.
  3. Time series: there are 4 sets of time-series graphs for the selected date range, on the right side of the page.

What's on-screen in more Detail

1.  KPI tiles: The KPI titles at the top of the page show your headline figures for the selected date range. 

  • Waste % & Waste value or volume for the selected date range. If the retailer provides Bin & RTC they will be split here. Light purple shows Reduced to Clear (RTC), dark purple shows Bin Waste. Waste that does not have a split will show in dark purple.
  • Stores above Waste Target shows the number of stores which are above the selected waste target. (💡)
  • Daily Rate of Sale volume for the selected date range. 
  • Stores unable to Turn pack shows the number of Stores unable to sell the delivery pack size in the minimum shelf life.  (💡)
  • Availability % for the selected date range.
  • Stores below Waste Target shows the number of stores which are below the selected availability target. (💡)

💡 Stores above Waste Target, Stores unable to Turn pack and Stores below Waste Target KPI tiles, allow you to filter to the stores that are either above or below a target. 

 

 

2.  Store breakdown: on the left of the page, there are three bars representing;

  • Waste % in proportion to Sales for the selected date range
    • Stores above the waste target are shown in red while stores below the target are in black. 
    • The black dashed line shows the waste % target
  • Pack Turn in Life for the selected date range. The pack turn in life is the stores ability to sell a pack within the shelf life.  (Rate of Sale Volume* Minimum Shelf Life) / Pack Size
    • Stores that are unable to turn one pack in the shelf life show in red, whilst store that can turn more than one pack are shown in black.
    • The black dashed line shows 1 pack. 
    • The black dotted line shows the average pack turn in the shelf life. 

  • Availability % for the selected date range.
    • Stores below the target are shown in red while stores above the target are in black. 
    • The black dashed line shows the availability % target.

 

 

3.  Time series: there are 4 sets of time-series graphs for the selected date range, on the right side of the page. 

  • Waste % and Waste
    • The line represents the Waste Percentage. Days above the waste target are marked in red, while days below the target are shown in black.
    • The bars represent Waste Value or Volume. If the retailer provides a waste split, Light purple represents Reduced to Clear (RTC), dark purple represents Bin Waste. Waste that is not split will show in dark purple.
    • The black dashed line shows the waste % target
  • Rate of Sale & Average Price
    • The grey bars represent Rate of Sale Volume
    • The line represents Average Selling Price

💡 When one Store is selected, the rate of sale on the time series is equal to the Sales in that store for a day.

  • Availability % 
    • The line represents Availability. Days below the availability target are marked in red, while days above the target are shown in black.
  • Store Stock
    • The last set of bars represents Store stock in grey.
